Batman, catching Ten trying to make off with the stakes in a floating poker game, discovers that the rest of the Royal Flush Gang is being held for ransom by the Jokerz. So, as Terry, he finds himself lying to both Wayne and Dana so he can help her out. This is just the beginning. By the end, more lies, and yet more lies are uncovered; everyone is testing and being tested by everyone else, because no one trusts anyone else; and everyone flunks. The idea has a keen, melancholy edge, but its execution is too limp. Perhaps because everyone is so warybecause Terry and Ten and even the King haven't just been burned, but have been emotionally burned overthe betrayals lack bite, and the abandonments feel bloodless. |
